History
Institute
of Jalpaiguri has passed a long way
till today; it was established by the British rulers in 1932 and was a medical
school named Jackson
Medical School.
The independent Government turned down the medical school in 1949, with the
abolition of LMF course and established the Pharmacy Training
Center on 5th September, 1949.
Later in 1954 Diploma in Pharmacy course was started in the Institute. Dr. B.C.
Roy, The them farsighted Chief Minister of
West Bengal realized the importance of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences,
and hence the first Pharmacy Institute of India was established at Jalpaiguri
in the year 1949. In his entire endeavor he got full help and cooperation from
Dr. Charu Chandra Sanyal, one of his most beloved students, who was not only
and eminent physician but a man with profound knowledge on local medicinal
plants. Long after, in 2003, the four years Bachelors in Pharmacy course was
introduced in this institute.
Since the beginning, this pioneer
institute has produced very successful, brilliant and dynamic Pharmacists over
the years. Our degree students too have succeeded in spreading out the name and
fame of this institute, in this very short tenure; which our diploma students
are doing since long. Many of our students has proved their credibility and
efficiency in different areas of this profession and are holding numbers of
responsible positions Nationally and Internationally in almost every nook and
corner of the field.
Present Status
Institute of Pharmacy,
Jalpaiguri is managed by the Government of West Bengal directly and is
affiliated to The West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The courses of
this institute are approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and All India
Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
